Aa Dekhe Zara a good movie for Bipasha Basu

Ray (Neil) is a down on luck wildlife photographer. As things start going from bad to worse, he inherits his grandfather’s (Biswajeet) special camera which changes things overnight for him. The camera has the special ability to reveal the future through the photographs taken from it. Ray starts using it for his own materialistic benefits and starts enjoying life. He manages to get a girlfriend, Simi (Bipasha) who works as a DJ in a night club. But then his special gift becomes a threat for India’s enemies and the issue of national security looms large. Ray has to keep the camera safe from the evil forces headed by one Captain (Rahul Dev). How Ray handles it all and what shocking revelation he has to face during the climax forms the rest of the film.

The film’s ‘hatke’ plot works initially but falls flat post interval. The audience roots for Ray as he starts winning the horse races and lotteries thanks to his future seeing camera but then after his love angle and the issue of National Security gets mixed with the plot, the film drops pace and you lose interest. The post interval portions have been written without much imagination with convenient co-incidences coming up at regular intervals. There is a supposedly shocking revelation at the end but then it doesn’t achieve the desired effect as by the time the climax arrives your mind is totally out of the film. To give debutante director Jehangir Surti his due credit, it doesn’t appear like he is directing his debut film. He is technically brilliant and his shot taking is unique. Good aid also comes from cameraman Jehangir Chowdhury. Pritam’s peppy numbers work but the pub song between Neil and Bipasha appears unnecessary and slackens the pace further. Shyam Kaushal’s action is superb though, especially the stunt where Neil is thrown from the top of the terrace.

“Straight” its all dignity and charm

Let’s get one thing, er, straight. Homosexuality is finally out of the closet in our films. Well, sort of. Last year’s naughty blockbuster “Dostana” had two of our most popular leading men pretending to be gay.

Now “Straight” has Vinay Pathak believing he is gay.

There’s a slender space dividing pretence from belief, specially when it comes to matters of human trait. Often what you pretend to be is what you eventually end up being.

Fortunately for serio-comic hero Pinu Patel (Pathak) he’s not sexually attracted to the persistently charming new stand-comedian Kamlesh (Anuj Chaudhri) whom Pinu hires for his restaurant.

The scenes showing Kamlesh insinuating himself into Pinu’s life and place of work are done with a dash of devilish bravado.

Within no time Pinu finds everyone eating not just off his tables, but also out of Kamlesh’s hands.

A triangle of sorts comes up in a queer way when Pinu can’t figure out who he’s more jealous, when the pretty new accountant Renu (Gul Panag) strikes up a camaraderie with Kamlesh.

Confusion of sexuality is a theme yet in its infancy in our films. Director Parvati Balagopalan keeps the going light-hearted and most of the time frothy and amiable. There’s an endearing quality to the way these NRIs in London are seen not in the predictable roles of migrant misfits, but grappling with more personal problems without taking themselves too seriously.

Seriously, being funny about sexual preferences doesn’t come easily to our cinema. “Straight” just about manages it with dignity and charm. The triangular relationship among Pinu, Renu and Kamlesh is punctuated by bouts of laughter, directed more at the way the characters deceive than conduct themselves.

EK - The Power of One ( Hindi Movie India -2009 )

Which was the last Bobby Deol film that clicked at the boxoffice? Apart from a short role in Dostana, you have to go way back to 2002’s Humraaz which did well and also earned Bobby a nomination for the Filmfare Best Actor. Since then it has been down hill, back-to-back disasters, poor performances, extreme criticism; Bobby Deol has seen it all. Yet Bobby has managed to survive in the industry. How, is a question that is really hard to understand.

Ek The Power of One directed by Sangeeth Sivan (Kya Kool Hai Hum, Apna Sapna Money Money) is a remake of Mahesh Babu’s Telugu film Athadu and is yet another solo Bobby Deol film. Shriya Saran has been signed on as the lead actress, the talented Nana Patekar has a supporting role.

Nandu (Bobby Deol) an orphan turned assassin somehow gets wrongly accused of a politician’s murder and is on the run. On his escapade on a train he meets Shekhar (Pradeep), who is homebound after fourteen years, they get chatting and Nandu finds all about his joint family and the wedding of Shekhar’s cousin that he is going to attend.

Jai Puri (Akshay Kumar) is in the prime of his youth and is blessed with extraordinary extra sensory perception. If he looks at an 8X10 photograph of any dead person, he has the mind power to discover the true details of events that had lead to the death of that person.

Jai’s father Jatin Puri (Benjamin Gilani) is a big businessman dealing with trading in oil. He is gifted with the success mantra and loves the good things of life. Jai and Jatin do not see eye to eye and Jai does not stay with his father, because Jatin believes that Jai is wasting his time with his so called super-natural powers and Jai does not like his fathers business ethics or lack of it.

Adit ( Rushaad Rana), a business associate of Jatin, is a friend of Jai and Jatin treats Adit as his son and a likely successor to his business empire. Habibulla Pasha (Javed Jaafri) a former cop and private detective owes his career to the benevolence of Jatin.

8x10 Tasveer is one more good movie given by Akshay. The story plot is very different from the normal Indian movies. Film song is very good and like to listen it. Overall is a very good movie. Every one like to see the movie

Firaaq an emotional tale of the anger ( Hindi Movie India -2009 )

”Firaaq”, a Urdu word which means Separation or Quest is set in the Indian state of Gujarat when it was reeling under the spate of some horrific riots in the Spring of 2002. A tale twisted with perversion, the story begins with Raghu (Siddarth) who is about to commit suicide since the one girl he loved Madhumati (Tamannah) has turned him down after playing with his feelings for a long time. Apparently, Madhu's parents fix her wedding with Radhakrishna (Rishi) who lives in the US and the girl who is basically innocent tends to go according to her parent's decision. Meanwhile, Raghu is saved from his attempt and he is given a piece of wisdom. He decides to go to New York and become a big man. As fate would have it, he meets Rathna (Rukmini) and she falls in love with him while Raghu likes her nature. However, there he also meets Madhu who seems to be happy. However, she gets to know that Radhakrishna has been cheating on her and while she looks towards Raghu for help, he is on the verge of getting engaged to Rathna. Does he accept her love? What happens to Rathna's love? Will Madhu be happy? All this forms the rest of the story.

Tamannah's Tamil film, Ananda Tandavam, is being dubbed in Telugu by the same name. Oscar Ravichandran, a well-known producer in Tamil who produced Tagore, Aparichitudu and Dasavatharam in Telugu, will produce the Telugu version of Ananda Tandavam. Debutant Siddardh has paired with Tamannah. AR Gandhi Krishna has directed the film. The shooting has been completed and the film is ready for release.

Akasamantha a relationship shown in an excellent ways i.e loved by audience (Telugu Movie in South India - 2009)

The time-frame of the story is around 25 years. The life story of a just born girl is shown till she graduates and finds her fiancée. The entire story is narrated in spaced flashback format where Prakash Raj narrates the story of his daughter to a stranger in a park. You can see certain similarities to the ‘Father of Bride’ character (Nuvve Nuvve in Telugu) in the second half. It is a difficult task to narrate a single thread of relationship between a father and a daughter. Director Radha Mohan comes up with a convincing screenplay to pull it off. Radha Mohan excels in showing sentiment scenes and a light humor episodes (especially Prakash Raj preparing for his daughter’s pre-KG interview). However, the pace goes down in the second half of the film.

First half of the film is entertaining. Second half is bit slow and becomes little repetitive towards the end. Akasamantha is all about letting one’s daughter go. It is about the mental turmoil and confusion an over-possessive father goes through whenever her daughter takes the first step towards a new direction. The plus points of the film are Prakash Raj performance, entertaining first half and noble intention of making a clean film. On the flip side, the second half becomes overbearing. Producer Dil Raju should be appreciated for betting his money on a subject that lacks regular commercial elements and screenplay payoffs. On a whole, Aakasamantha is a different film made on relationships and has ingredients that appeal to the family crowds in A centers.

Shooting of the latest film of Balakrishna with Priyamani in the female lead, directed by Mahadev and produced by Sivaram Prasad, is almost nearing completion. It is reliably learnt that the film unit is considering the titles – Mithrudu or Viswanath – as the title of the film. Most probably, ‘Mitrudu’ would be confirmed as the title, sources in the unit say. Manisharma gave melodious tunes to all the songs and the audio would be released in the first week of March. The producer is making efforts to release the film in the second week of April. The film is coming up as a complete family entertainer.

Manorama - Six Feet Under starts on a promising note. Abhay Deol is Satyaveer Singh (SV), a PWD engineer. He likes to write in his spare time and dreams of becoming a famous writer of detective stories. But this dream of his has already been shattered once, as his one and only published novel Manorama gets a sad response (only 200 copies sold). Therefore, he accepts bribe in cash or kind to support his existence. So, Satyaveer gets back to leading a normal existence with his wife Nimmi (Gul Panag) and kid, with dreams of Yana Gupta.

On one such ordinary day (actually night) of SV’s life, a middle-aged woman, Meenakshi Rathore (Sarika) stops by his house. She is the wife of a powerful minister PP Rathore (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) and suspects her husband is having an affair with another woman. Meenakshi claims to be a fan of SV’s novel Manorama, and wants him to spy on her husband. She offers Rs 20,000 for the job.

Billa Rocking Andhra Pradesh (Telugu Movie in South India - 2009)

Billa is a stylistic film with vibrant visuals and stunning stunts. This is a remake of Ajit’s Billa in Tamil, which in turn is the remake of Shah Rukh Khan’s Hindi Don which again was a remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s Don.

Billa Telugu Movie Review
The Synopsis
Billa (Prabhas) is an underworld don with international ramifications operating from Kula Lampur, Malaysia. His key associates include Ranjit (Supreet) and Lisa (Namitha). Maya (Anushka), sister of Vijay (Subbaraju) an erstwhile member of the don’s gang executed by Billa, joins with an intention of seeking vengeance on the don.
Krishnamurthy (Krishnamraju), an Assistant Police Commissioner, is on the trail of Billa the don and shoots him in an encounter. The death of don is not publicized. By a strange coincidence, the ACP finds a petty thief Ranga (Prabhas again) who is a look alike of the dead Billa.
The ACP gives professional training to Ranga and unleashes him on the underworld impersonating Billa the don. The rest of the story deals with the fight of ACP and Ranga against Billa’s network.

Billa Telugu Movie Review
The Performances
Prabhas looks very fit and fashionable and gives a very effective performance. Veteran Krishnam Raju is a misfit as an ACP. Namitha, Anushka and Hansika Motwani fill in the glamour part of the film and they have nothing much to do in a male oriented action film.
Supreeth and Kelly Dorji are convincing. Subbaraju, Rehman, Jayasudha and Ali are adequate in their cameos.
The Techniques
Being a remake, nothing much can be said about story and screenplay. But, the post-interval narration speed dips and drags. The dialogues lack punch and director Meher Ramesh should have taken the help of a professional, proficient dialogue writer. Mani Sharma’s music is neither foot tapping nor pleasing to the ear.
Sounder Rajan’s cinematography is brilliant, to put it mildly. Siva’s stunts will please action lovers. The editing and audiography could have been better. The production values are high.

The stylistic package called Birla can be enjoyed for its vibrant visuals, rich locales, the make over stylish looks of Prabhas and scintillating action sequences.
